A hand-built Zulu beer pot from South Africa
Originating in South Africa, the Zulu pot — known as an ukhamba — has long held an honoured place in Zulu life, traditionally used to brew, store and serve beer. Each is hand-shaped from clay dug along local riverbanks, smoothed by hand, and fired in an open pit. That age-old process gives every vessel a warmth of tone and depth of character that no factory piece can match.
Because each pot is hand-built and pit-fired, you may notice fine cracks, markings or shifts in colour across the surface. These aren’t flaws — they’re the marks of a genuine handmade piece, and part of what makes every pot one of a kind.
Lovely on a shelf, mantel or console — on its own as a sculptural accent, or grouped with other vessels for a collected, textural feel. Decorative use only.
