A hand-carved Tonga stool from Zimbabwe
Hand-carved from a single piece of wood, each Tonga stool is a genuine artisan piece from the Tonga people of Zimbabwe. Traditionally a status symbol owned by the head of a household, every stool is shaped freehand — so its lines, patterns and proportions are unique. Light enough to move yet sculptural enough to hold a room, they were made for rest, work and gatherings.
Sturdy and surprisingly comfortable, it works as occasional seating, a plant stand or a sculptural side table. As a hand-carved natural-wood piece, expect small cracks, tool marks and tonal variation — the character of a genuine handmade artifact.
