A hand-carved Songye kifwebe mask from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These striated masks belonged to the bwadi bwa kifwebe society and were worn at ceremonies as figures of authority and social order, the deep parallel grooves carved across the face and picked out in pigment.
Bold and graphic, with a high domed forehead and strong features, it makes a striking wall or shelf piece with real presence.
Size: H 29cm × W 12cm × D 10cm.
