A hand-carved Nupe stool from Nigeria, worked from a single piece of wood with intricate incised patterns. The Nupe live along the banks of the Niger River, and stools like this are traditionally used as prestige objects on market days and at important gatherings.
Each is carved from a single, seamless block of indigenous hardwood — the geometric legs and incised surface patterns reflect a design language unique to the Nupe.
