A small hand-carved Namji (also known as Namchi) baby doll from Cameroon. Carved from African rosewood into a bold little geometric figure, then dressed in multicoloured beads with cowrie shells, coins, metal and leather. Each one is unique in stance, face and beadwork.
Traditionally these are fertility dolls, given to a bride at her wedding and carried as a good-luck charm. Once she has a child, the doll is kept on the family altar or passed down to her daughter.
A charming little piece — perfect on a shelf, beside larger dolls, or as a characterful gift.
Colour: yellow. Size: approx. 17cm tall × 6cm.
