A hand-carved Kwele mask from Gabon
Hand-carved by the Kwele people of the rainforests of Gabon and the Republic of the Congo, whose masks are celebrated for their serene, minimalist geometry and signature heart-shaped face finished in white kaolin clay. Traditionally carried in ceremonies meant to 'cool' tensions and bring harmony and protection to the community.
Clean, sculptural lines make it a natural statement piece in a contemporary or eclectic interior — striking hung on a wall or leaned against a shelf. Hand-carved from wood with natural pigments, with the small variations in tone and finish of a genuine handmade piece.
