  • Chokwe Lozi Stool - 30.1

A hand-made stool from the Chokwe people of central Africa. In much of Africa the seat is the most important piece of furniture, its form and quality reflecting the owner's social rank.

Unlike most African seats, which are carved from a single piece of wood, this stool is built from separate pieces, with hide stretched and tacked securely around the sides to form a very sturdy seat. The Chokwe state was founded in the 16th century, when nobles from the neighbouring Lunda empire migrated into northern Angola. A beautiful, genuine art piece with the patina and character of age.

    Size: approx. 27cm W × 24cm L × 30cm H.
