Designed by Andile Dyalvane for Indigenus.
A deeply personal range from ceramicist Andile Dyalvane, Bhaca reflects his Xhosa roots and his mastery of clay. Andile sculpted the original vessels in clay, cutting into the surface and pushing the cuts open where they meet; they were then scanned and scaled up into large glass reinforced concrete planters. Bhaca is the Xhosa word for scarification, the traditional practice of marking the skin for initiation, clan identity or healing.
The twist of the form and the slashing strokes run around every side, so each Bhaca reads as a sculpture from any angle. Set in a cluster they have real presence.
