A striking original Asafo flag, handmade by Fante makers on the Ghanaian coast and held in our RareFinds collection for its scale and graphic confidence. The asafo were the traditional warrior companies of the Fante, and each company commissioned flags — frankaa — to broadcast its identity and out-do its rivals through bold imagery and embedded proverbs.
The whole surface is worked in hand-cut appliqué, the figures built from contrasting cloth and outlined in stitch. The result is folk art with genuine narrative weight — anthropological object and design statement in one.
An investment piece for collectors and a true focal point on any wall.
