A hand-carved Songye kifwebe mask from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These striated masks belonged to the bwadi bwa kifwebe society, worn at ceremonies as figures of authority and social order. Male masks carry three-colour striations and the bold markings here recall a zebra.
Cut with deep parallel grooves and finished in pigment, it makes a striking wall or shelf piece with real presence.
Size: H 36cm × W 18cm.
