A hand-carved Songye kifwebe mask from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Worn by the bwadi bwa kifwebe society, striated masks like this appeared at ceremonies as figures of power and social order, their faces cut with deep parallel grooves and finished in pigment.
Bold and graphic, with a high domed forehead and strong features, it makes a striking wall or shelf piece with real presence.
