A striking 2-metre Bobo plank mask from Burkina Faso, hand-carved and hand-painted in natural mineral pigments. The Bobo are known for this bold, abstract, almost architectural style.
The tall plank is covered in meaningful geometry — zig-zags for the path of the ancestors, checkered triangles for the balance of light and shadow — rising to a crescent moon that links the earthly and celestial, above a round face with concentric 'owl-like' eyes for protection and clear sight. Comes on a matte black pedestal for a clean, gallery-style finish.
Size: H 203cm × W 28cm × D 25cm (plus pedestal).
