If you've ever wondered what actually happens at a Botanical Boys Terrarium Masterclass — beyond "you build a terrarium" — here's a proper look behind the cork lid.
You'll book your spot through our events page, where you can also choose which vessel you'd like to build. Our standard jar is included, but most guests like to upgrade — and the vessel you choose changes the whole character of the finished piece, from a slim apothecary LAB jar to a statement Eden Project dome made in partnership with LSA and the Eden Project's sustainable "Canopy" glassware range.
Vessel upgrades are available when you book, from our slim LAB Jar to the Eden Project dome — each one gives your terrarium a different look and feel.
Once everyone's settled, we talk through the basics — what's actually going on inside a closed terrarium and why each layer earns its place — before getting hands-on. You'll build up your own piece layer by layer: a drainage base first, then a layer of moss, followed by our special terrarium soil, which contains water-retaining materials and activated charcoal to filter the water as it cycles through. From there, you'll plant your plants, then decorate the surface with stones and decorative moss.
It's a relaxed, sociable session rather than a race — we're on hand throughout to help with placement, answer questions, and make sure your layers are right before the lid goes on. To finish, most guests add one or more of our terrarium figures and build out their own little scene among the moss for a bit of personality.
All our vessels are available as upgrades when you book, with prices starting from:
Not sure which to pick? As a rule, narrower vessels like the LAB Jar suit a simple, structured planting, while the larger glass eggs and Eden domes give you room to build something lusher and more layered.
A finished, planted terrarium that's entirely yours — plus the know-how to keep it thriving, since you've just built every layer of it yourself. We also run these as corporate and private events, having hosted groups for the likes of Google, Airbnb, Liberty London, and Harvey Nichols, in person, online, or a mix of both for teams spread across different locations.
Ready to build your own? Spots fill up quickly, especially around weekends.
