Dogon granary doors come from the Dogon people of the Bandiagara Escarpment in Mali. Each door protected the small, window-like opening into a family's grain store, secured with a simple sliding lock. The carved figures — primordial beings, ancestors, Kanaga masks, sun lizards and scenes of daily life — served to protect the entrance and make it sacrosanct.
