These Bamara Chiwara carving is identified as a female and originates from the Bambara (Bamana) people in Mali. Note the little one on the back of the female. Chiwara, also spelled Chi wara or Tyiwara, antelope figure that represents the spirit that taught humans the fundamentals of agriculture. The Bamana people honour Chiwara through art and dance.
