Cameroon — hand-carved wooden shield
A round shield carved from a single piece of wood, cut with the geometric patterning historically used across West Africa to dazzle and disorient an opponent in battle — as much a symbol of status as a tool of defence.
As each is hand-carved, size varies slightly piece to piece, wall-mountable with no stand. A faint hairline crack runs through the centre of this particular piece — characterful rather than structural, the shield remains solid.
