Zambian baskets are hand-woven from raw materials such as palm leaf, vines and twigs found in the makers' local areas. Some are made from carefully stripped roots of local trees, harvested sustainably so the tree is not damaged and the root can continue to grow.
Weaving is an important income source and way of life for people in these rural communities. Youngsters learn the craft to keep the family's basketry traditions going for future generations.
These baskets are a little different to the standard natural design — instead of the usual natural brown tones, they are woven with recycled plastics and paper, creating an explosion of colour for any interior wall project.
Size: 66cm diameter.
