An original Fante Asafo flag from coastal Ghana — a hand-appliquéd textile that turns a wall into a story. Historically these flags (frankaa) belonged to the asafo warrior companies, who paraded them at festivals to declare allegiance, settle rivalries and illustrate Akan proverbs in cloth.
Every motif is cut and sewn by hand, layer over layer, so the piece carries the texture and gentle imperfection of something genuinely made rather than printed. It is this craftsmanship that has moved Asafo flags from the parade ground into galleries and collectors' homes.
A characterful statement piece for a hallway, studio or above a bed. Part of our RareFinds collection.
