A hand-carved Ngaady Mwaash mask from the Kuba people of the Kasai region in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The mask represents a woman and honours the central role of women in Kuba society. It dances alongside the Mooshamb-wooy mask — which stands for the king — in pantomimes that retell the founding of the Kuba Kingdom.
Intricately patterned and full of meaning, a striking display piece with real cultural depth.
Size: H 51cm × W 19cm × D 30cm.
